Work to uncover the headstones and fragments which were buried in the cemetery decades ago is now complete thanks to the efforts of the Friends of Ely Cemetery. The many stones have been laid out, propped up and cleaned making a nice display. Not only are the stones and those whose lives they commemorated no longer buried and forgotten but it is hoped the area will one day create a haven for wildlife. You can read more about the project and see more photos here.
Meanwhile, our researcher, Chris Phillips, has been delving deeper into the life of one of those whose memorial has now been uncovered. Click here to read the story of Ann Richardson Sayer and her daughter, Emily.
